"Hala Sultan Book Days" started at Nicosia

"Hala Sultan Book Days" which was organized by the cooperation of Yunus Emre Institute, Cyprus Foundations Administration and Turkish Historical Society began.

The opening speeches of the book days was made from Selimiye Square. Ali Murat Başçeri, the Turkish Republic Ambassador of Nicosia, conveyed his gratitude to the participants of such an important event, emphasizing the importance of reading books. Ambassador also added that the pleasure of reading a written book is privileged.

Then, the Turkish Historical Society President Prof.Dr. Refik Turan stated that the book is a life and the book is a very important element that carries the past to the present, today and tomorrow.

General Director of the Cyprus Turkish Foundations Administration Prof.Dr. Ibrahim Benter stated that the habit of reading a book is gradually decreasing and he pointed out that it is the task of the elders to encourage young people to read. In his speech, Benter said every book is a separate world. As you read, your ability to empathize develops and your thoughts develop.

Within the framework of the Book Days, he meets readers in many categories ranging from literature to history, from religion mythology to art design, from philosophy to comic books, and from audio books to foreign languages.

There are also many interviews and signature days under the Sultan's Book Days. Interview program will include speeches with Gülseren Budayıcıoğlu, Ahmet Taşagil, Oğuz Karakartal, Ali Ayçil, Canan Tan, Kamuran Akdemir, Beyza Alkoç and Serhat Yabancı.

Book Days, attended by hundreds of thousands of books by 20 writers and 40 publishing houses, will continue until 3 June in Selimiye Square between 13.30-21.00.
